RainFurrest 2013 Conbook Submission Specifications.

Celebrate our fandom.

Thanks for your interest in the official conbook for RainFurrest, a convention created by and for anthromorphics fans! The event runs September 26 through 29, 2013, and this year's theme is "Dancing in the Moonlight: A Celebration of Fandom" - a message to all that our fandom is worth participating, worth growing, and worth expressing! Every attendee will receive a souvenir-quality convention book, and we're looking for unique artwork from within the fandom to feature within it to help carry this message.

What you should know:

Conbook submissions must be received no later than August 11, 2013. All submissions should be appropriate for accompanied minors (roughly PG-13, in MPAA film rating parlance). Only the artist of a work may submit it, and the contents of the work must be within the artist's right to publish according to copyright law.

We ask only print-and-digital publication rights for submitted works, exclusive until October 7, 2013, at which time they become non-exclusive. This means that the work must remain unpublished until that date, but that afterward, you may publish it anywhere you like, and you retain complete ownership of the work. Also, unless requested otherwise, conbook submissions may be used in other RainFurrest publications and materials (including but not limited to other printed booklets, convention badges, keycards, and the like) at our discretion.

Acceptance of a submission does not guarantee its publication, and the Publications Department reserves the right to reject any submission for any reason. By submitting a work for use in our materials, you are agreeing to the submission terms and conditions stated here.

Preparing your image:

Raster-based artwork (bitmaps, photographs, and the like) may be submitted in any of the following formats: TIFF; PSD; and PNG. Photographs may be submitted in JPEG but should be as high-quality as possible. The conbook design will allow for images up to approximately 6-3/8"x8-1/4"; submitted images should be ready for print at that size at 300 dots per inch minimum (1913x2475 pixels) though they will be resized to suit the final layout.

Vector-based artwork may be submitted in the following formats: SVG; EPS; AI; and PDF. If your work includes text, be sure to convert the text to curves to prevent font issues.

The interior of the conbook will be printed in black-and-white, so greyscale images are welcome. Images may undergo necessary adjustments (resizing, contrast, and the like) for print quality. Alpha channels (transparent areas) will be preserved. Colour images will be accepted, but converted to greyscale.

Images with visible watermarks or copyright information will be rejected. Don't worry; copyright information will be included along with your work when published. (We want to be certain that you receive due credit!)

How to send us your work:

Any number of previously unpublished works may be submitted, but they must be received electronically, one work per e-mail. To submit a work:

  • Give the file a unique, logical filename. Ideally, this would be something like "CreatorName_SubmissionTitle.png".
  • Compose an e-mail to publications@rainfurrest.com stating:
  • legal name (for copyright purposes);
  • the name you wish credited in print (autonyms and pseudonyms are welcome and encouraged, but not required);
  • optionally, a link to a personal gallery or archive (deviantArt, Fur Affinity, Weasyl, and the like);
  • the title of the submitted work.
  • Remember to attach the submission file or a link to download it! Consider using Dropbox, Google Drive, or any other service that lets you share a file without making it visible to those who don't have the link.
  • Be patient! You'll receive an e-mail confirming receipt of your submission, but it may take several days. If you don't hear back from us within seven days, send another message with the information above (but without the attachments) to publications@rainfurrest.com and we'll look into it.

    Points to keep in mind:

  • Remember the theme of the convention - a celebration of all aspects of the furry fandom, primarily expressed through dance. Unique, theme-appropriate submissions have a much greater chance of publication than less specific works.
  • Submitted work should not appear online or be otherwise published until after the convention. Exclusive art and prose will help make the conbook an extra-special surprise to attendees and collectors!
