Everything that goes on at RainFurrest is handled by our staff of volunteers. These individuals spend a great deal of time and effort to put on this convention for the other furries who are attending. Without volunteers, this convention would not exist. Each volunteer on our staff is a committed individual who deserves all our thanks for their help.

Would you like to volunteer?

We are always looking for more people to help us with our convention. There are always jobs to do, and seemingly never enough people to do them. If you are interested in helping us, we want you to understand what we expect of all our volunteers. We appreciate your offer of help and hard work for the con, and we feel it is only fair to let you know what you are signing up for before you do commit:

  1. Best Effort or Bust:

    We ask that all staff members put forward their best effort in the role they are filling. If something is keeping you from doing your job to the best of your abilities, please make sure to communicate those issues to the executive staff or to the staff in general so we can help you in any way we can.

  2. Attendance:

    In order to ensure that everyone knows what they should be doing, we ask that you attend at least 55% of the meetings throughout the year, and at no less than 75% of meetings near the convention. The meetings right before the convention are the most important, so do your best to be there.

  3. Have Fun:

    Although not every part of your job may be the most enjoyable thing you have ever done, we want you and everyone else to walk away from this convention saying, "I had a fantastic time!" Try to have fun with your work, and make sure to give yourself time to have fun at the convention, too.

  4. Ask for Help:

    There isn't a single person on staff who will never need to ask for help. Never let yourself get overloaded, and let the staff know if you need help with anything. After all, that's what we're here for. And vice versa, if someone else calls for help and you can help them, please do what you can. We need to work together as a team to make this convention run smoothly.

Our three-department signup policy?

For several years now, the policy for hiring people at conventions has resulting in some unwanted results. It is for this reason that RainFurrest takes a new approach to these hiring policies. What we have started is a three department signup policy. This policy basically states that when you sign up to volunteer for RainFurrest, we want you to list three different locations you'd like to volunteer. We get you to list those three departments in the order of your preference.

Many times in the past staffers have been recruited by someone running a department. The problem with this is that often these staffers feel like they must work this department or they won't be wanted on staff. Part of this policy is to find out what other departments that the new recruit wants to work on. Also, if the staffer is not fully utilized in one department then they can work more than one.

If you have a specific department you want to help with, please make sure to mention the three departments you most want to work in it in the form so we can put you in the job you want. (Check the Staff List to see which departments have available staff openings.) If you don't know what you want to do, but just want to help out, or the department you want is already fully staffed, sign up and we will do our best to assign you to a department that works for you. Let us know what you do in your day job, or for hobbies, so we can try to think of departments you would enjoy working in.
